"'Silly Mel. Writing is about life. Living is just preparing for writing.' I grin at her convinced I've said something deep that will be handed down to future generations.
"She does something with her hair and some clips she took out of her pocket, 'Then why,' she says around the one she's holding in her teeth, 'Don't you do it more often?'"
